Speech Production Therapy

After a stroke or brain injury, speech disorders such as apraxia and dysarthria are common. Below are some features of these disorders that you may notice. A licensed speech language pathologist (SLP) can diagnose and treat these problems.

  • slurred speech: may sound drunk or "slushy"

  • soft speech: difficulty raising your volume to be understood- common with Parkinson's Disease

  • stuttered speech: getting 'stuck' on a sound or word

  • pauses: trying to move your mouth but no sound comes out

  • monotone speech: robotic sounding speech that lacks the ups and downs of pitch variation
